One killed, four injured in accident

A bank employee, M. Babu (35) of Kanyakumari, was killed and four others injured when the car in which they were travelling hit a lorry on the Ring Road near here on Wednesday midnight.

The police said that the persons from Rajakkamangalam of Kanyakumari were proceeding to Mathuranthagam to attend a function.

When the car approached the Andarkottaram junction on the Kappalur-Madurai Ring Road, the car hit the truck. Babu, who was behind the wheel, was killed on the spot.

Among the injured is V. Sagaya Mahesh, attached to Border Security Force.

All the injured have been admitted to the Government Rajaji Hospital here.

The Karuppayoorani police have arrested the lorry driver, S. Suresh of Tiruvannamalai.

Baby killed

Meanwhile, a five-month-old baby Boomika, was killed in a freak accident reported on Theni Main Road in Kalavasal on Tuesday night.

The police said that the baby’s mother along with the baby was travelling in an autorickshaw when a car hit it. In the impact the baby was thrown away from the vehicle.
