‘Orange your neighbourhood’

November 28, 2014 09:50 am | Updated 09:50 am IST - MADURAI:

The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence campaign observed by the United Nations begins on November 25, the International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women.

The campaign is called 'Orange Your Neighbourhood.’

The United Nations Organisation’s website calls upon all individuals to take the campaign to local streets, shops and businesses, and organise 'Orange Events' in neighbourhoods.

Orange Your Neighbourhood is part of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's campaign UNiTE to End Violence Against Women. Hashtags #Orangeurhood and #16days are being used on social media platforms to raise awareness.

The campaign mobilises public opinion and support to raise awareness about violence against women.

It ends on December 10, Human Rights Day.

The World Health Organisation plans to highlight 16 key facts on intimate partner and sexual violence against women during the campaign.
