Forest department cannot retain vehicles seized by it on charges of alleged involvement in offences for years together without taking steps to attach them in accordance with law, the Madras High Court Bench here has said.

Justice S. Vaidyanathan made the observation while directing the District Forest Officer of Sivaganga to release a vehicle reportedly used for transporting deer antlers.

Not right

He said that it was not right on the part of the officials to have kept the vehicle in custody for more than two years without any progress in case.
