A rowdy-sheeter, K. Pandi alias "Muttaikann" Pandi (21), was found dead with several stab and cut injuries, at Theerathakaadu, near Madurai on Monday morning.

The police suspect that in-fighting among his associates had led to the brutal murder on Sunday night.

The police said that one N. Ayyanar had complained to the Karuppayoorani police late on Sunday night that a gang had attacked him with lethal weapons at Theerthakaddu, near Vandiyur, around 9 p.m.

However, the police that went in search of the accused could not find anyone amidst the rubble where scores of huts had been demolished by the authorities recently for encroachments.  Ayyanar was admitted to the Government Rajaji hospital, the police added.

However, the police found the body of Pandi behind one of the huts early on Monday morning.

Assistant Superintendent of Police, Omprakash Meena, and Inspector of Police, S. Vadivel Murugan, conducted an inquiry at the scene of crime.  The police are on the lookout for a few suspects with whom Pandi had previous enmity.

Police said that there were several cases against Pandi, including a murder case in Anna Nagar police limits and an attempt-to-murder case in Karuppayoorani.  The body has been sent to the GRH for post-mortem.
