SDPI demands action against BJP leader

July 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - Madurai:

The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has sought action against Bharatiya Janata Party leader H. Raja for making a statement with an attempt to promote enmity between two religious groups.

In a petition handed over to Madurai Commissioner of Police Shailesh Kumar Yadav, SDPI district president M. Mujibur Rahman said that Mr. Raja had commented on the ‘burka’ used by college-going Muslim girls during a press conference held at Mayiladuthurai on June 26.

His statement that ‘burka’ was being used for “copying during examination” was an attempt to create a wrong impression about the minority people and to create disharmony in society.

‘He attacked

Periyar too’

Stating that Mr. Raja had made derogatory speeches against leaders like Periyar and several cases were pending against him, he said only a stringent legal action would prevent recurrence of such acts.
