Members of the Students Federation of India(SFI) carried out a protest and took out a procession against the increase in fees of the Madurai Kamaraj University Constituent College near Outpost here on Tuesday.

The members said that the fees had been increased without any prior notice or valid reason for the current academic year and demanded that the government intervene to take charge of the functioning of the college.

Following a protest at the college premises, the members proceeded to carry out a procession towards the district Collectorate to submit a petition and were intercepted by police personnel near the Rajah Muthiah Mandram.

They were then allowed to carry on with their procession to the Gandhi Memorial museum and ten representatives submitted a petition to District Collector L. Subramanian about the hike in fees.
