The Adivasi Adhikar Sangharsh Sammelan, a convention to assert the rights of tribals, has been organised by associations working for Adivasis in New Delhi on August 5.

More than 1,000 representatives, including about 200 from the Karnataka Adivasi Hakkugala Samanvaya Samiti, are expected to attend the event, a release said here on Wednesday.

The convention would deliberate on issues like the systematic denial of rights of Adivasis over land, forest and other resources; reduction in grants for various basic amenities and other issues. The samiti expressed its anguish over the assault on Sundara Malekudiya in Belthangady taluk on Sunday allegedly by Gopala Gowda. The incident, in which Mr. Sundara’s fingers were chopped off and the left hand was severely damaged, showcased the continued assault on Adivasis.

A demonstration has been organised on July 31 in Belthangady in protest against the incident as well as seeking protection to Adivasis. The samiti would organise a State-wide agitation if the government did not act seriously against perpetrators of such crimes, the release added.
