Aatikoota postponed

The Aatikoota, scheduled for August 2, at the Dr. K. Shivarama Karantha Pilikula Nisargadhama has been postponed on account of the State-mourning for former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. All the programmes will be conducted on August 9 at Pilikula, said an official release.

Felicitation for Ishwarayya

The Department of Kannada and Culture, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mangaluru, and the Mani Krishnaswami Academy have organised a function to felicitate senior art critic A. Ishwarayya on his 75th birthday on August 12. The event to be held at Ravindra Kala Bhavana, University College, Mangaluru, from 5.30 pm, would also feature A Carnatic vocal concert by Neela Ramagopal.

Painting competition

A painting competition on the theme, climate change, has been organised for students of classes 6 to 9 in the Mangaluru City Corporation limits has been organised on August 4 between 10 a.m. and noon at the Dr. K. Shivarama Karantha Pilikula Nisargadhama.

Interested participants have to bring proofs of date of birth and educational institution. For details, contact BEOs of Mangaluru south (9480695166) or north (9480695165). Selected painting works would be displayed on the Science Express train being launched by the Union government in September.

Cyclist felicitated

Bharatiya Janata Party leaders felicitated Abhishek Kumar Sharma, who had been on a bicycle expedition across the country to create awareness about the ‘Clean India’ campaign. Mr. Sharma was felicitated on Tuesday night by former MLC K. Monappa Bhandary, Mangaluru City Corporation Councillors Rajendra Kumar, Gurucharan and other leaders, according to a release.
