Writers of popular literature, who are close to people, have great responsibility in moulding society’s thinking, said writer and Sahitya Akademy Award-winner Kum. Veerabhadrappa.
Releasing 12 books of writer P.V. Pradeep on Wednesday, Mr. Veerabhadrappa said common man related better with the popular literature that included short stories and novels. Apart from presenting a dreamy world, such literature had been an ideal foil for a reader during his good and bad times. This placed great responsibility on such writers to encourage healthy thinking among people.
Mr. Veerabhadrappa said writers should be keen observers and be up-to-date of the happenings around them. Halegannada works of Ranna and Pampa showed the music element in the literature and how minimal words could be used to express ideas and thoughts. “This is the way popular literature writers’ should graduate to serious writing,” he said.
Mr. Veerabhadrappa said the apprehension that Kannada language would die was misplaced. Kannada literature had made rich contribution to even other languages such as Marathi and Urdu.
Earlier, Mr. Veerabhadrappa released 12 books written by Mr. Pradeep. Twelve persons were felicitated for their contribution in the field of literature, social work, and business.
