Though election fever largely kept away from the social media space, there were a few voters who expressed their joys and disappointments within the 140-limit constraints of Twitter.
Among the tweeters was former Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda who posted a picture of him and his wife emerging out of the booth at Padeel, Puttur taluk.
Sharing a picture of his 95-year-old grandfather showing an inked thumb after voting in the city, Amit Prabhu K. (@amitprabhu) announces: “In the end, my Grandfather, aged 95, showed he cares for India more than most others.” For @PunyaPrakop, it was disappointment as he realised his son, who studies here, had not registered for voting. “B****r didn’t vote as he didn’t register there!! I thought he did!” he said on twitter.
@imwatdworldwant declared his support for the Aam Aadmi Party (despite him adding that he “knows” they will not win). Karthik (@karaikudy) tweeted that his son told him about the “massive massive” turnout and people waiting in the queue for hours, while Joylita praised the process as being “Super organised, the whole process lasted less than 7 minutes.”
There was visible pride in the voter turnout in the district (which was higher than the State average). Numerous local organisations shared the hourly updates on Facebook and Twitter, leading to comments of approval from locals. “My home town. Proud!” said Nithin Rao after an hourly update showed 62.5 per cent polling across the district.
