Man held on the charge of sexual assault in Mangalore

A 24-year-old man was arrested by the Bantwal rural police on the charge of misbehaving with a 19-year-old girl, who is his neighbour, near Sidhakatte on Monday.

The police said Siraj allegedly tried to pull the girl towards him while she was walking towards the bus stop. The girl screamed and Siraj ran away,but was caught by villagers who produced him before the police.

On the girl’s complaint, the police arrested Siraj and produced him before the local magistrate, who remanded him in judicial custody.

Cheating

A food safety officer from Puttur has been accused of cheating the government by not depositing to the exchequer the amount collected from traders for issuing licences.

In a complaint filed by Praveen Kumar, from Food Safety and Standards Authority Office in Manglaore, Mr. Dayananda has been accused of collecting money over the last two years and not giving it to the government.

There is also a charge of forgery against Mr. Dayananda.

Killed in accident

A person was killed in a collision between a truck and a motorcycle at Padubidri in Udupi taluk on Tuesday.

The Padubidri police said Jayarama Acharya (36), a resident of Laila village near Belthangady, suffered severe injuries in the collision near S.K. Auto Works shop, and died on the spot.

The truck driver fled from the accident scene. Rash negligent driving by the truck driver is said to the cause of the accident. A case had been registered and investigations were on, the police said.
