Man’s murder: wife, four others held in Subrahmanya

A 53-year-old man, who had been reported as missing from his house near Kukke Subrahmanya on July 14, was dead in the forests of Peruvaje near Sullia on Wednesday.

The Sullia police arrested the wife of the deceased and four others on the charge of murder.

The Sullia police said Lalita (38) filed a complaint on July 14 with the Subrahmanya police that her husband, Jayananada (53), had gone missing.

During the investigation, the police suspected a foul play and kept an eye on Lalita.

Superintendent of Police Sharanappa S.D. said they questioned Lalita’s friend Dhanajaya (31), who reportedly confessed to murdering Jayananda.

Dhanajaya took the police to the forest area in Peruvaje where the body was found in a decomposed state. Mr. Sharanappa said Jayananada was strangulated and murdered. The Sullia police said they arrested Dhananjaya, Lalita, Chandrakant (26), Dinesh (29) and Chintana (25).

Attempt to molest

A 17-year-old boy was reportedly assaulted by a group of village residents from Puttur taluk for allegedly attempting to molest a 16-year-year-old girl on Wednesday.

According to the Puttur police, the boy blocked the way of the girl while she was walking towards her house and sought to know her name.

When she refused, the boy tried to smother her, and she raised an alarm.

The girl’s uncle and a few others rushed towards the girl. Seeing this, boy started running away. The group chased him.

The police received information about the incident and started tracing the boy, who was found hiding. While there were images on social networking sites of the boy being assaulted before his arrest.

The police, however, denied it.

Man missing

A person from Haveri, who had gone for swimming into the sea at Malpe beach on Wednesday, is missing.

According to the Malpe police, Shivakumar (22) came along with his family members on a tour to the Malpe beach from Haveri around 4 p.m.

He went for a swim despite being warned against it.

The strong sea waves carried him away. Fishermen and the life guard at Malpe have been trying to trace him.

A case had been registered and investigations were on, the police said.
