Medical officers threaten to resign en masse

Ready to discuss with association, says Health Minister Khader

October 21, 2014 10:51 am | Updated May 23, 2016 04:46 pm IST - MANGALORE:

State medical officers will resign en masse on October 27 if the State government failed to pay salaries every month, said president of the Karnataka State Medical Officers Association T.A. Veerabhadraiah.

Talking to reporters here on Monday, Dr. Veerabhadraiah said the government had not paid medical officers for the last four months. They have also not paid Ayurvedic doctors, appointed to monitor school children, for nearly six months.

He said around 3,400 medical officers will resign. “We will work for one month and allow the government to look into the demands. If they fail to do so by next month, we will ask them to accept our resignations,” he said.

Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare U.T. Khader said the demands were small and did not merit resignations. “We are ready to discuss with the association. But if they are bent on putting in their papers we cannot help it,” he said.
