Experts blame superstores, mobile phones for the birds’ vanishing act

“Chirp for the Sparrow, Tweet for the Sparrow” is the theme of the World Sparrow Day 2013. The objectives are:

Bringing together individuals and organisations working for conservation of sparrows and urban biodiversity

Building a network for better linkages between like-minded people

Using the network to carry out advocacy, doing collaborative research and form national and international consortiums

Drawing the attention of government agencies and the scientific community for conservation of common bird species and urban biodiversity

Studying the health of the environment since common birds like sparrows are bio-indicators of the ecosystem
