Assembly pays tributes

The Assembly paid glowing tributes to former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam who passed away on Monday night.

Speaker N. Sakthan said in his obituary reference in the Assembly on Tuesday that Kalam was one who prompted the youth dream beyond the horizons. His self-determination and dedication in career helped him make great strides and as President earned love and respect from people all over the world. His lectures were really inspiring. Keralites shared an emotional bond with him. Kalam who had spent more than two decades in the city too had reciprocated the same warmth and affection.

Though he was a born in Tamil Nadu, Kalam had spent many fruitful years in Kerala, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said. He lived the city like a Keralite for two decades. The development initiatives proposed by Kalam for the State had opened great opportunities. Neera production is just one among them, he said.

Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan said that Kalam had a unique personality like his name itself. His philosophy was a blend of development and knowledge. He educated the people to soar in the wings of dreams.

Industries Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty described Dr. Kalam as one who inspired the Digital Kerala project.

When approached him to consult about Akshaya project, Dr. Kalam described it as the most outstanding project of the government.

CPI Legislature Party leader C. Divakaran, Finance Minister K.M. Mani, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Anoop Jacob, Agriculture Minister K.P. Mohanan, former Minister K.B. Ganesh Kumar and A.K. Sasindran, MLA, also spoke.
