DDC meet trains focus on soil-mining

July 06, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The issue of rampant soil-mining in the district came up for discussion at the meeting of the District Development Committee (DDC) here on Saturday. Participants expressed apprehension about the issue and called for immediate steps to check such activities.

The issue was raised by district panchayat vice-president T. Rufus Daniel who said indiscriminate mining could have serious ecological repercussions. He added that the large-scale removal of soil that was being undertaken in an unscientific manner posed great threat to the houses in the locality. — Staff Reporter
