The State government, the Parent-Teachers Association (PTA), and the alumni have come together to regain the glory of Government Model Boys Higher Secondary School by improving its infrastructure and setting new standards in teaching and learning.

On Wednesday, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will launch a ten-year programme to modernise the school, over a century old.

A propaganda vehicle to publicise the renovation programme was launched on Sunday. School Principal M.P. Shaji said the decision to implement the programme was taken after a ‘gap analysis’ conducted on ‘why students do not want to join the school.’

Survey

The survey conducted last year found several critical gaps in the functioning of the school, including depleting standards in teaching and lack of proper infrastructure.

The school authorities, in consultation with the government, contacted the school’s old students, including actor Mohanlal, and prepared a programme to improve infrastructure and academics.

“The programme will start in February. As much as Rs.28 crore will be utilised,” Chandrahasan, a prominent tourism entrepreneur and an old student of the school said.

Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar, Industries Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty, Education Minister P.K. Abdu Rabb, Mayor K. Chandrika, Chief Secretary Bharath Bhushan, Additional Chief Secretary Jiji Thomson, Infosys co-founder Kris Gopalakrishnan, and Mr. Mohanlal will take part in the function.
