Coinciding with the 95{+t}{+h}birthday of senior Gandhian P. Gopinathan Nair, the Information and Public Relations Department and Kerala Gandhi Smarak Nidhi have come forward to jointly organise an exhibition of rare photographs of the nonagenarian leader who left his home town Neyyattinkara at the age of 22 to Santhiniketan for research only to become a disciple of Mahatma Gandhi.
The photographs and write-ups about Gopinathan Nair exhibited at Gandhi Bhavan brings to light interesting phases in his life, including those spent with Gandhi and refugee camps in Bangladesh.
President of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee V. M Sudheeran inaugurated the exhibition and released a book on Mr. Nair titled ‘Gandhian Karmapadhangalil.’
Hailing the contribution of Mr. Nair in spreading Gandhian principles and highlighting ill-effects of alcoholism and drug abuse, the KPCC president said the ideals promoted by him has become all the more relevant these days.
Member of the Legislative Assembly O. Rajagopal, who launched distribution of 95 saplings as part of birthday celebrations, said Mr Nair is the living epitome of Gandhian values and who stood for human values.
As part of the celebrations, 95 earthen lamps were lit at the Gandhi Bhavan.
