Held on assault charge

The Medical College police on Tuesday arrested one person, Faizal, 29, of Thempamoodu, near Manickal, in connection with an assault case registered on the basis of a clash between students of John Cox Engineering College at Kannammoola on July 20.

Sheen Tharayil, Circle Inspector, Medical College, said following the clash, a third-semester student of the college, identified as Gaddafi, had hired a group of men, including Faizal, to retaliate. The retaliation saw Arjun G. Kumar, a fifth-semester student, being attacked with iron rods.

The bridge of his nose was broken in the attack. He also sustained serious nasal and facial injuries. He was under treatment till recently.

Faizal was produced before court on Tuesday and remanded in judicial custody.
