An idyllic sketch of a girl chasing butterflies will form this year’s Children’s Day stamp to be brought out by the Kerala State Council for Child Welfare. The picture is drawn by Eva Maria, a Class 6 student of Sacred Hearts Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Kannur.

Her artwork was chosen from over 500 entries received from schools across the State, said District Collector Biju Prabhakar, who is also the officer in-charge of the council.

Her drawing was chosen by a panel of judges, including artist B.D. Dethan.

Social Welfare Minister M.K. Muneer will release the stamp during the Children’s Day function to be held at the SMV High School here. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will attend the function. A magic show by magician Gopinath Muthukad will also be held

Eva Maria will be presented a cash award and certificate at the function. She, the daughter of teacher-couple T.A. Francis and Bindu Joy, has won several art competitions. She is an accomplished gymnast who has won a medal at a national-level competition held in Hyderabad earlier this year, a release from the council says.
