The Tourism Department’s plan to turn the city streets into canvas for art will begin shortly. The objective is to complete the first phase before Onam. The logo for this project, named Arteria, was released by Minister for Tourism A.P. Anilkumar at a function held at the Secretariat on Thursday.

As part of this scheme, the walls from Kowdiar to East Fort will be plastered with art, both mural and contemporary, that celebrates the city’s rich cultural heritage. Public exhibitions will be held periodically to encourage aspiring artists and make art more accessible to the local people.

Prominent artists and sculptors based here will be employed for Arteria. The walls of certain buildings would also be coloured with contemporary art. This scheme is being implemented with the support of the district administration, city Corporation, Culture Department, Kerala Lalita Kala Akademi and few private organisations as well.
