No justification in shifting domestic terminal: Bishop

July 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

Shifting of the domestic terminal of the Thiruvananthapuram airport for the land mafia cannot be justified, Susa Pakiam M., Archbishop of the Thiruvananthapuram Archdiocese of the Latin Catholic Church, has said.

He was speaking after inaugurating an Assembly march taken out by the airport joint action council here on Tuesday. “This is an unscientific decision. This is the result of a conspiracy by a bureaucrat-land mafia to loot the public exchequer. A few people’s representatives are aiding them in this. The populace of this area who gave up their land several times for developmental activities are again bearing the brunt of such decisions. The shifting of flights from the old domestic terminal which has all the facilities to handle domestic flights is to help a few high profile industrialists. Many will again lose their land for the new domestic terminal,” said Mr. Susa Pakiam.

He said the same lobby was behind the change in the Airport Authority of India’s (AAI) approved plan for the new international terminal. The attempts to shift the domestic terminal and to evict the residents of Vallakkadavu and Vayyammoola would be opposed, he said.
