The Finance Department is not against the Light Metro mooted for Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode by the DMRC and using the services of DMRC Principal Adviser E. Sreedharan, Minister for Finance and Law K.M. Mani said here on Monday.
“For the smooth implementation of these projects, the constant advice of Mr. Sreedharan is needed for Kerala and I welcome the support given by him in implementing these vital projects,” Mr. Mani said commenting on the recommendations made by the Finance Department on the Detailed Project Report prepared by the DMRC.
The Finance Minster said that it was being made out that the department had objected to the two MRTS projects and this was not true at all.
In fact, Mr. Mani said, the Finance Department had suggested that the civil works of the projects could be started immediately “The department has merely suggested some practical modifications and changes that will prove to be financially beneficial to the State,” he added.
The department has also suggested that the expenditure for land acquisition and civil works can be met from the budgetary allocations during 2015-16, he pointed out in a statement here.
