One more held

The State Police Crime Branch on Tuesday arrested one more person in connection with the Premam movie piracy case. Renju, 26, a local resident, is a trained welder.

The case against him was that he was the first to receive the ‘censor copy’ of the film from the prime-accused, Arun Kumar, a contract employee at the regional office of the Centre Board for Film Certification (CBFC).

Investigators said Renju gave a copy to his brother Renjith, a Dubai-based blue collar worker. Renjith, in turn, made a copy of it and “gifted” it to his bride-to-be, a woman from Kollam.

The police said the woman disseminated the pirated movie among her friends. Soon, most college and school students in Kollam had a copy of it. One of them, a minor, uploaded it on a file sharing site in June and the pirated version went viral.
