Report sought on complaint of abuse

July 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

City Police Commissioner H. Venkatesh has asked for a report in connection with a complaint lodged against Salim, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) attached to the Medical College police station, which said that he allegedly abused and manhandled three players of the Kerala Under-23 cricket team here on Tuesday.

Mr. Venkatesh said the complaint was lodged by three youngsters — Sally Samson, brother of Indian cricketer Sanju Samson; Iqlaz Naha; and Aquib Fazal. They stated that on Tuesday that as they were returning on a scooter after cricket practice at the Medical College grounds, Salim stopped them near the Medical College Junction and charged them of riding triples on the scooter. He made them push the scooter to the police station, where he allegedly ‘abused and manhandled’ them.

Mr. Venkatesh said that the allegation of the police officer abusing and manhandling the three was yet to be verified and that he had sought a report from Reji Jacob, Assistant Commissioner, Special Branch, on the issue by Wednesday.

It is believed that the trio had an argument with Salim, when they said they had no money with them to pay the fine.

Any decision of action or further probe on the issue would be taken only after the report was submitted, he added.
