Two ships leave for Yemen

March 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The Union government on Friday sent two ships to bring back the Indians trapped in Yemen. The ships will take five days to reach the ports of the war-torn nation, Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj informed Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.

The Union government was also looking into other arrangements and had approached the Saudi Arabian government to help airlift the Indians from Yemen, she said.

The Chief Minister talked to Keralites trapped in Yemen over telephone and enquired about their safety. All the Keralites in Yemen are safe, a statement from the Chief Minister’s office said. However, many of them have complained that their passports are with the employers.

The Indian Embassy in Yemen has been asked to intervene in the issue and to bring the trapped Indian citizens back home.
