Tiruchi division has maintained 91.1 per cent punctuality during the year 2013-14, which is the best ever by the division, despite the increase in the number of trains operated, said Manjula Rangarajan, Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchi, here on Wednesday.

This is against 83.5 per cent punctuality achieved last year, she said, while speaking at the 59 Railway Week celebrations here.

“Tiruchi Division is basically a passenger-oriented division, also considered as ‘pilgrim’s paradise’ and prides itself in having innumerable pilgrim centres well connected by the railway system.

In the last three years, the division has also performed commendably in freight operations with the highest-ever volume of 9.675 million tonnes in 2013-14. Thus this division is becoming an all round passenger and freight division,” said Ms.Rangarajan.

She also stated that the overall earnings of the division has increased by 1.5 per cent from Rs.755.72 crore to Rs.767.59 crore during 2013-14.

Manjula Rangarajan recounted the major achievements of the division in the last year and recognised the distinguished services rendered by some of the employees by distributing awards. She also said that the work on establishing a Rail Museum in Tiruchi is nearing completion.

She exhorted railway employees and their families to maintain highest standards of safety and use subways and foot-over-bridges, follow rules at level crossings and set an example to fellow citizens.

The DRM distributed prizes to various employees and participants of a cultural programme.

R.S.Raj Purohit, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchi division, spoke.
