July 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - TIRUCHI:

The Tamil Nadu AITUC Construction Workers Union will stage picketing agitations in all district headquarters on July 21 to press for their charter of demands, including streamlining the functions of the Construction Workers Welfare Board.

A resolution adopted at the union’s State executive committee meeting held here with State Vice-President K. Suresh in the chair said the agitation was to demand registration of all construction workers in the welfare board and sanction of all legal benefits to them and to condemn the denial of the right to trade unions to appear on behalf of construction workers.

The union said uniform norms were not followed by district labour officers, who acted unilaterally.

Although there was more than Rs. 1,000 crore available with the welfare board, pension, and welfare assistance was not being disbursed in time.

It demanded the implementation of the accident insurance scheme and sanction of Rs. 5,000 as pension.

Through another resolution, the meeting decided to participate in a big way in the nationwide strike called by central trade unions on September 2 to press for their 12-point charter of demands, including steps to check price rise, ensuring minimum monthly wage of Rs. 15,000, and creation of additional employment opportunities and social security fund for the unorganised sector workers.

They demand disbursal of welfare assistance in time and monthly pension of Rs. 5,000
