The Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam, affiliated to the Communist Party of India (CPI), urged the government to declare the entire State as drought-hit and launch relief measures immediately.

Special fund

Both the Centre and the State, taking into consideration the serious drought condition prevailing in the State, should allot special funds to carry out drought relief measures, said V. Duraimanikkam, general secretary of the sangam.

Explaining the resolutions adopted at the day-long executive meeting held here on Friday, he urged the Centre to take immediate action for constituting the Cauvery Water Management Board and the monitoring committee.

Another resolution referred to the acute drinking water crisis prevailing in various parts of the State and urged the State government to execute drinking water supply-related schemes on a war footing. A three day conference of the sangam would be held in Tiruchi from August 16, he added.
