Jamal Mohamed College retains Khajamian Trophy

The summit clash had to be decided through tie-breaker after the teams remained goalless at the end of regulation time

Exuberance of youth surfaced in ample measure during the South India-level inter-collegiate hockey tournament, which concluded here on Monday.

Hosts Jamal Mohamed College defeated Loyola College, Chennai, in the final to retain the Khajamian Trophy. The summit clash had to be decided through tie-breaker after the teams remained goalless at the end of regulation time.

St. Joseph’s College, Tiruchi, got the better of Nazareth College of Arts and Science, Chennai, in the third-place playoff. The three-day tourney attracted 19 teams from Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

“More than 25 goals were scored in the tournament that also saw some good saves by the goalkeepers. We invite top teams to ensure that the tournament is packed with action,” said B.S. Sha-in-Sha, director of physical education, Jamal Mohamed College.

“It was the 14th edition of the tournament and its popularity has been growing every passing year. From next year, we are planning to make it an all-India event,” Mr. Sha-in-Sha said.

K.A. Khaleel Ahamed, treasurer, Jamal Mohamed College, gave away the prizes in the presence of S. Mohamed Salique, principal, A. Mohamed Ibraheem, vice-principal, and K. Abdus Samad, director, Jamal Institute of Management.
