Man gets 12-years RI for sexually assaulting minor in Tiruchi

The Mahila Court here on Wednesday convicted and sentenced a daily wage labourer to undergo 12 years rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl in Palakkarai area in October last year.

Pronouncing the verdict, Judge Jacintha Martin imposed Rs. 1,500 as fine on S. Gilbert Chandru Vadanan (26).

According to the prosecution, Gilbert Chandru Vadanan took the girl to the Bells ground where he sexually assaulted the girl, who was a class 4 student and threatened the minor not to disclose anything about the crime.

On a complaint from the girl’s mother, the Fort All Women Police station registered a case against Chandru under sections 5 and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 and under IPC section 506 (i) (criminal intimidation). Consequent to the verdict, Chandru was lodged in the Central Prison here.
