The Tamil Nadu National Law School, which was established by the State government through a special Act to provide quality legal education, is likely to adopt best practices from leading national law schools to develop the institute as a top ranking law school in the country.
The Chief Justice of Madras High Court, who is also the Chancellor of the Tiruchi Law School, has asked the newly appointed V. Arun Roy, Registrar-cum-Vice Chancellor-in-charge of the Law School, to visit some top law schools in New Delhi and Bengaluru.

Besides studying various facilities such as infrastructure, syllabus, faculty members, library, admission process, and field training programmes, he will meet the reputed academicians to get first hand inputs.
Mr. Roy, who is the first IAS officer to head the institute, told The Hindu that he would undertake an intensive study tour to take note of best practices in prestigious national law schools in a few places of the country.
The exercise was needed to achieve the goal of transforming the two-year old law school into one of the high ranking national and international law institutes. The law school was open to get valuable inputs. Best practices, if any, would be incorporated. He would take all possible steps to achieve the aims and objectives of the law school.
Mr. Roy assumed office a few days ago. He was asked to assume office within hours after Prof. N. Murugavel, who was the founding Vice Chancellor of the Tamil Nadu National Law School, “submitted” his resignation from the post. His sudden resignation had raised eyebrows among the academicians, legal luminaries, teaching, and non teaching staff members of the law school.
Upon assuming office, Mr. Roy held discussions with the officials to take stock of the present situation and ongoing programmes of the law school, which is located on a 25-acre campus at Navalurkuttapattu on Tiruchi-Dindigul NH45 in Srirangam Assembly constituency.
The school is the first national level institution in Tamil Nadu to disseminate learning and knowledge of law, legal processes, advocacy, and judicial administration.
Chief Minister Jayalalithaa declared open the law school at a function held in Srirangam on June 3, 2013. The State had allocated Rs. 100 crore for creating all necessary infrastructure at the law school on a par with international standards.
