Power sector looking up, says A.V. Krishnan

The power sector was slowly but steadily looking up towards a bright future and new power projects in the pipeline would soon bring about a favourable business environment for Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, said A.V. Krishnan, Executive Director, BHEL, Tiruchi.

Speaking after taking the salute at the Republic Day parade at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kailasapuram Township on Monday, Mr. Krishnan said this was a special year for BHEL historically as it celebrated its golden jubilee. Boiler orders secured by BHEL for Ennore, Vanakbori, Kothakudam, and Yelahanka power projects and the MoU with the Telangana State Power Generation Corporation Limited (TSGENCO) for supply of 4 x 270 MW units were indications of better things to come.

Supercritical boiler technology and fuel flexible boiler technology were perhaps the most significant achievements of the Tiruchi unit over the last few years and reiterated that a major R&D thrust was being given to the in-house development of advanced ultra supercritical boiler technology and coal gasification technology.

The in-house Welding Research Institute of BHEL,Tiruchi, was on course to become a world-class research facility. BHEL was exploring several new areas of business in the Defence, space, oil and petrochemical sectors that would help the company to emerge stronger.

Continuous process improvement initiatives adopted by the Tiruchi unit of the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has resulted in improved productivity, enhanced quality, faster delivery, reduced wastages and significant cost reduction making it better prepared to weather today’s tough business environment, he said.

Mr. Krishnan commended the 12 employees of BHEL, Tiruchi, who had recently won BHEL’s Corporate Excel Awards for 2013 and 2014, six employees who had won Prime Minister’s Shram Awards, six employees who had won Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskars and the 14 Quality Circles that had won awards at QC conventions.

Mr. Krishnan presented the BHEL Republic Day Awards to those who had excelled in various aspects of operations during the year.

A cultural pageantry by the students of the Boiler Plant Nursery and Primary School, Vivekananda Elementary School, Sarada Middle School, BHEL Tamil Medium Middle School, and the Boiler Plant Middle School, special show by the security dog squad, motorcycle stunts by the BHEL security team, and a light music concert formed part of the Republic Day celebrations in the township.
