Railway police teams to rescue runaway children

A team of sub-inspector and three constables assigned the task

The Railway Police have launched ‘Operation Muskaan’ in the Tiruchi Railway police district on Wednesday to rescue runaway or uncared for children in trains and Railway stations.

The campaign would go on till the end of this month, when special teams comprising a sub-inspector and three constables would keep vigil in every station limits and be on the look out for such children. Such children would be rescued and handed over to parents or recognised homes.

The campaign would be held in Tiruchi, Madurai, Thanjavur, Kumbakonam, Velankanni, Villupuram, Chidambaram, Palani, Dindigul, Nagercoil, Rameswaram, and Tirunelveli Railway stations, Railway Police officials said.

Sensitising people

Senior railway police officials distributed pamphlets to sensitise people about the exercise at the Tiruchi Railway Junction on Wednesday. Twenty-nine boys and a girl have been rescued till June 29 this year in the Tiruchi Railway Police district, according to the officials.
