A flex board shop owner was attacked by an armed gang at Thiruthuraipoondi in Tiruvarur district on Wednesday night in which the victim’s left hand was chopped off in the deadly strike.
The injured M. Murugadass (40), who sustained multiple injuries in the gruesome attack, was initially admitted to Government Hospital at Tiruthuraipoondi and subsequently shifted to a private hospital in Thanjavur for higher treatment.
The Thiruthuraipoondi police which booked an attempt to murder case arrested three accused in connection with the attack.
The prime accused G. Arul alias Gnanaraj (30) was reported to be absconding, police sources said.
The sources said Arul had hired a few flex board frames from the shop a few days ago for his relative’s wedding. As the rent was not paid and the frames not returned back after the wedding, the owner apparently sent his employees to bring back the frames.
Irked over this, Arul went to the shop and allegedly assaulted and abused the designer. The Thirthuraipoondi police have registered a case on a complaint preferred by the designer.
Later, Arul along with his associates went to the shop on Wednesday night and allegedly attacked Murugadass with “aruval” and fled. The left wrist of Murugadass got chopped off in the attack, the sources said.
