Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will visit Chhattisgarh on Monday to discuss and clear issues arising out of the multipurpose Polavaram Project. The Polavaram Ordinance envisages transfer of 136 villages, 211 hamlets and seven mandals of Khammam district to Andhra Pradesh.
The project may result in the submergence of as many as four villages of Chhattisgarh including Dendra, Inzarim, Konta and Mulakisoli, besides 759 hectares of land. There is also a danger of submergence of 3,831 hectares of forest land.
Mr. Naidu will meet his Chhattisgarh counterpart Raman Singh to discuss aspects pertaining to the above issues, besides rehabilitation and compensation for tribals. The government hopes to complete this national irrigation project within three years which will link the Krishna and Godavari rivers.
PDS systemThe Chief Minister will also visit Naya Raipur to study the capital development model and will examine Chhattisgarh’s Public Distribution System model that has plugged leakages in the system from 40 per cent to 4 per cent.
DevelopmentAs regards the development of Naya Raipur, the Chief Minister will study the comprehensive document that outlines planning parameters pertaining to economy, housing, transport, physical and social infrastructure, civic amenities, land use zoning and standards for development.
Naya Raipur has been identified in the development plan as a satellite city of Raipur. The Chief Minister will explore if the plan will be feasible for AP’s capital development and adopt the best practices from various capital cities.
