Twenty-two year old Amani, a resident of Satyanarayanapuram, is a Kuchipudi dancer. She accidentally fell down while performing a show and injured her knee in February last year. Since then she could not dance and complained of pain while climbing stairs. She had lost her hopes.

She consulted Dr. Paparao Bezawada, arthroscopy surgeon at Boppanna Super Speciality Hospital in the city. She was diagnosed with Anterior Cruciate Ligament (AGL) tear and on April 21 this year, Dr. Bezawada performed knee arthroscopy using hamstring tendon graft.

After physiotherapy, Dr. Bezawada in a press release issued here on Tuesday claimed that Amani commenced dancing after eight months of the surgery and said she performed more than 50 shows after the surgery.

Dr. Bezwada said the surgery was a challenge as dancing imparts severe stress on the knee joint and ligaments. He advised sports professionals and youngsters not to neglect knee injuries and seek expert attention in time.
