Deputy Speaker Mandali Buddha Prasad on Saturday made a fervent appeal to artists in the State to use their painting skills to depict the richness of Telugu culture.
Mr. Buddha Prasad was addressing a gathering after inaugurating a weeklong painting exhibition organised by members of newly-formed Vijayawada Art Society at the Aakriti Art Gallery of The Cultural Centre of Vijayawada at Mogulrajpuram.
Speaking on the occasion, he said the Andhra land had always been at the forefront of art and culture. “Geographical boundaries may have been drawn after bifurcation, but almost all art forms originated and blossomed on Telugu land,” he said.
While going around the exhibition which had on display over 60 paintings in different categories, Mr. Buddha Prasad noticed the different styles of paintings. Referring to the fact that most of the participants in the exhibition were young artists whose penchant for innovation and new forms of artistry was evident in their works, he said he would welcome their zeal to bring in newness in their work but at the same time, would insist that they do not drift away from ‘original Telugu style’ of painting.
“I don’t mean to discourage artists from learning new techniques of modern art, but they should not shun the Telugu style of painting,” he reiterated.
