Several boulders rolled down on to the main road at Sri Kanakadurga Temple on Indrakeeladri Hills creating panic among devotees and commuters on Friday morning. The landslide occured after heavy rain lashed the city in the early hours of Friday.

Vehicular traffic, from Hyderabad entering Vijayawada, was disrupted following the incident. Vehicles that were coming into the city were diverted from Kumarripallem Junction via Tunnel Road, said Traffic ACP Shravan Kumar. He said that vehicular movement would be restored by afternoon.

“We are allowing traffic only on one side,” he said adding that a car was damaged after boulders fell on it.

“We towed away the car using a crane. Once boulders are cleared, we will allow the traffic,” he said. When contacted, Sri Kanakadurga Temple Executive Officer Ch. Narsing Rao did not respond.
