‘Polavaram a top priority’

Irrigation Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao on Monday said that payments had been made (Rs. 701 crore) to farmers who had lost their land to the Polavaram right main canal in a year.

The same spirit should be shown in transferring the Godavari river water into Krishna through the Pattiseema lift irrigation project according by August 15, he exhorted the officials.

Addressing officials through a video-conference on Monday, Mr. Umamaheswara Rao said that the payments were made in advance and hoped the projects would not face any hurdles.

“The government is committed to providing irrigation facility to 13 lakh acres in Krishna, West Godavari and drought-prone districts of Rayalaseema ,” he said.
