Seminar on sports policy on March 7

A seminar on the sports policy for Andhra Pradesh will be held at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation here on March 7 in which sports administrators, coaches, physical education teachers and other professionals will take part, according to District Sports Development Officer P. Rama Krishna here on Monday.

“The seminar is an exercise to formulate a strong and viable sports policy for Andhra Pradesh,” Mr. Rama Krishna added.

A release from Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh director Bandaru Hanumanth Rao said SAAP officials under the chairmanship of P. R. Mohan would meet for three days to prepare the sports budget.

“Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is keen on promoting sports and games in a big way in Andhra Pradesh,” said Mr. Hanumanth Rao.

Plea to FM

“We will meet Finance Minister Y. Ramakrishnudu and put forward our suggestions. We will ask him allot one per cent of the budget for sports (i.e.) Rs.1, 000 crore,” said Mr. Hanumanth Rao.

He also said SAAP had roped in national and international players in its fold to carry out the sporting affairs in a transparent manner. He said in all the 13 districts seminars would be held on March 7 to elicit opinions and suggestions on the new sports policy.
