Coastal clean-updrive tomorrow

The personnel of the Eastern Naval Command and Coast Guard along with their families and other stakeholders will embark on a drive to clean up the beaches in the city from Yarada to Kalinga on Saturday to mark the 29th International Coastal Clean-up Day.

Chief of Staff, Eastern Naval Command, Vice Admiral Bimal Verma would formally flag off the drive being taken up with the theme ‘Fighting for trash-free seas’ at the Kursura Museum at 7.30 a.m.

The personnel will be joined in their endeavour by members of prominent clubs and civil society organisations of Visakhapatnam, including the Consumer Protection Council, Lions Club, NSS wing of Andhra University, Papa Home, Century Club, Y’s Club, HSL Scout Crew, Oxford Talent School, Human Rights Association and students of the Navy Children School.

More than 1,500 people of Visakhapatnam and 3,000 Naval personnel and their families are expected to participate in the drive.

The personnel and officers of the District Headquarters 6 of the Coast Guard will take up the drive at Rushikonda beach where Commissioner of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation is expected to participate.
