Collector orders steps to check bird menace

District Collector N. Yuvaraj directed the officials concerned to ensure proper maintenance of the geddas (major drains) located at Gnanpuram, Convent junction, Kobbarithota and Port area to prevent birds coming in the way of landing and takeoff of planes from the airport.

The Collector presided over a meeting of the Airport Committee at the Collectorate on Tuesday. Officials of the Navy, Airport, Visakhapatnam Port, Revenue, Irrigation, AP Pollution Control Board attended.

Officials of the Navy and the AAI brought to the notice of the committee the poor maintenance of geddas in the vicinity of the airport and how it was leading to proliferation of birds and stray dogs, posing a danger to flights at the airport.
