With a new breed of local talent wielding the megaphone to get a foothold in the film world, an upcoming director from Gajuwaka, K. Venkat Nanaji, does it for a different purpose.
After receiving a decent response for his 23-minute short film ‘EG Money’, Venkat is now keen on reaching out to the audiences through a host of message-oriented movies.
Unlike the first entertainment centered on how people fall into the trap of making quick money by being vulnerable to false mobile alert or bringing home an ‘Adrushta yantram’ from a tele-shopping firm, the second film revolves around a three-year-old boy who loses his parents to malaria at a tender age. The rest of the film deals with the trauma of the young boy and his discovery to eradicate malaria.
With a group of local film societies and green activists coming together to screen award-winning films to educate people on various environmental issues, the young filmmaker firmly believes that cinema is a powerful medium to spread awareness on various topics, especially the serious ones. “Keeping this in mind, I want to create awareness on the life threatening disease malaria. And the best way to convey any kind of message is through films. This will not only hone my creative skills as a director but also helps to raise awareness levels on different subjects among a wide audience,” he said.
With ‘Malaria’ movie almost nearing its completion, Venkat shares his future projects, saying, “I have two scripts on hand. While the first one deals with the ways to combat stage fear and to possess excellent communication skills, the other one is about the negative side of a love story.”
