There is no better way to signal the arrival of Durga Puja than the reverberating drum beats of the Dhakis (drummers). Marking the beginning of the festivities, the 54 Sarbojanin and East Coast Railway Durga Puja at Waltair Kalibari came alive with a host of cultural activities.

The puja was inaugurated by Divisional Railway Manager Anil Kumar on Saptami on Monday.

A special dance performance by a 10-member group of West Bengal Dance Academy from Kolkata was the highlight of the evening’s programme. City-based groups will be presenting traditional dance performances on Shashthi, Saptami, Ashtami and Navami (September 30 to October 3).

Singers Abhishek and Sujata of Zee Bangla will be performing on Ashtami. Idol immersion will be done on October 4 at 7 p.m.
