The physical fitness tests for candidates from the district who have applied for selection as ‘Junior Line Man (JLM)’ will be held at the 132 KV Sub Station premises at Simhachalam from July 30 to August 6.

Announcing this at a media conference here on Thursday, AP EPDCL Superintending Engineer Ch. Satyanarayana Reddy said that there would be total transparency in the selections and appealed to candidates not be misled by anyone who could offer to do a favour and cheat them. A total of 1,780 of the 13,000 applicants from Visakhapatnam district, have been called for the fitness tests.

The tests would be conducted in all the five districts under the jurisdiction of the Eastern Power Distribution Company of AP Limited (AP EPDCL). A candidate has to apply for selection only from one district, those who apply from multiple districts would be automatically rejected as the biometric finger prints of the candidates would be taken at the test centre and they could be accessed at all the other centres.

Mr. Reddy said that 1,106 candidates called for the tests are ‘shift operators’ (outsourced employees). These contract employees would be given an additional 20 per cent weightage. The total posts for Vizag district are 135, including 25 backlog vacancies. Of the 110 vacancies, 54 would be filled with candidates from ‘OC’ (open competition) category, 27 – SC, 7 – ST, BC A – 12, B – 18, C – 2, D – 8 and BC E – 5 and Sports quota – 2.

The marks obtained in SSC/ITI would only be considered for selection. However, qualifying in the fitness tests is compulsory for all candidates. The fitness tests are: climbing 8 m cement poles and 30 ft RS joists. He said that there would be total transparency in the selection of candidates in the fitness tests as the entire process would be recorded by video cameras. There would be a ‘cycling’ test and metre reading tests on electro mechanical and electronic metres.
