Man held, 180 kg. of ganja seized

Kothakota police arrested one person and seized 180 kg. of dry ganja at Ajayapuram near Kalyanapulova village in Ravikamatam mandal in Visakhapatnam district on Saturday.

While the police could arrest only one person, seven others escaped from the spot. Cops have launched a manhunt by deputing a special team.

According to Kothakota Inspector P. Venkata Rao, eight persons were transporting the ganga from Suvvapalli area in G Madugula mandal in Visakha Agency. Each person was carrying a bag weighing around 25 kg. and trekking down the hilly terrain to reach the plain area at Kalyanapulova. The contraband was supposed to be handed over to some unknown persons at Kalyanapulova.

Based on a tip off, a special team rushed to the Ajayapuram area, and spotted eight persons carrying the material. After noticing the cops at a distance of about 100 meters, seven persons dropped the gunny bags and escaped from the spot while one person was nabbed by the police team.

The arrested has been identified as a native of Benna Bhupalapatnam village, which is known for ganja smuggling.
