On the last day of the financial year on Tuesday, property tax payments peaked with the GVMC realising nearly Rs.5 crore by evening.
Against the total demand of Rs.197 crore, the total collection by Tuesday evening was Rs.156 crore.
Remittances directly and by cheques at the Saukaryam and eSeva centres, and zone offices was going on till late in the evening.
Officials expect the collection to go up to Rs.12 crore for the day.
The collection had risen to Rs.4 crore on Monday, the penultimate day for payment of tax.
“We are expecting that the total collection, details of which are yet to come in, may touch Rs.163 crore,” Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) V. Ravindra said. The Rs.5 crore received does not contain details of the 2 per cent monthly interest levied from this financial year or 200 per cent property tax for buildings that have not obtained occupancy certificate.
The government has introduced a provision by which 2 per cent simple interest is levied after the first quarter on the property tax payable for the first half, and after December for the second half.
