Rajya Sabha Member T. Subbarami Reddy demanded establishment of the new railway zone with Visakhapatnam as headquarters.

He raised the issue in the Rajya Sabha during the discussion on the Railway Budget in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. Mr. Reddy noted that establishment of the zone headquarters in Visakhapatnam was important from the point of view of ‘administrative convenience’ also. Also, there had been a demand for establishment of a new zone with headquarters in Vizag for the past several years. He suggested that the proposed AP Express from Vijayawada – New Delhi be run from Guntur to New Delhi via Vijayawada, Eluru, Rajahmundry, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Parvathipuram, covering seven districts in AP.

Mr. Reddy also sought starting of a Duronto Express from Vizag to New Delhi.
