The role of policemen, today, is multi-functional, ranging from protecting the borders to fighting insurgency and from ensuring law and order to controlling crime, according to Panchayat Raj Minister Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu. He was addressing the policemen on the occasion of the Police Commemoration Day here on Tuesday. He heaped praise on them for their courage in relief work in the aftermath of cyclone Hudhud.

“They braved strong winds and incessant rain to serve the people in the hour of crisis. They have exhibited that they follow the line of ‘service before self’,” he said. Commissioner of Police (in-charge) Atul Singh said that this year no programmes were held during the week.
